Mission

To help girls and young women realize the ideals of womanhood and prepare themselves for their responsibilities in the home, the nation and the world community.

Vision

The Filipino girl and young woman who are progressive, dynamic, proactive, patriotic and God-loving.

History

Lone Girl Scout troops were organized in the Philippines as early as 1918 by American missionaries and servicemen. These Scout troops were directly registered with the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Pilar Hidalgo-Lim and Josefa Llanes Escoda spearheaded the organization of a Scout movement for girls, and requested the assistance of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP). In 1939, Mrs. Escoda was sent to the United States and Britain for training through the help of Joseph E. Stevenot of the BSP. Upon her return to the Philippines, she immediately started to set up the GSP with the help of other civic organizations.

On May 26, 1940, the GSP was chartered under Philippine Commonwealth Act No. 542.

In 1946, the GSP was accepted as a tenderfoot member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) during the 11th World Conference held at Evian, France. In 1948, the GSP became a full member of WAGGGS during the 12th World Conference held at Cooperstown, New York.

Since 1995 the organization lost nearly half of its members; the membership number shrunk from 1,275,113 in 1995 to 671,267 in 2003. In reaction to this, the BSP opened the Senior Scout Section for girls in summer 2006 which led to a public conflict about the focuses of both GSP and BSP.

What is Girl Scouting?

Girl Scouting is a worldwide movement that provides girls and young women, aged 4 to 21 years, a non-formal progressive educational program based on spiritual values and the ideal of service.

The Movement is open to persons of diverse creeds and races and cuts across social barriers.

Membership is voluntary. The Movement is non-political but any member as an active citizen, may take a stand/action on political and legislative matters. It is independent and non-governmental but it participates in nation-building through cooperation with the home, school, church, government units and other agencies.

While girls are the focus of the Movement, adult volunteers also enjoy many stimulating opportunities. These adults hold ultimate responsibility for the Movement.

Self-training through enriching experiences in Girl Scouting influences girls and young women into becoming responsible, decisive, useful, respected and acknowledged citizens in a changing world.

THE ViBRANT JOURNEYS OF A SCOUT

A fun fad this may be,

Our faces simply filled with glee.

Happiness and joy is what it brings,

To uplift our spirits and make it sing.

Hardships and problems may come in a day,

But I say, "Come what may!"

To worry about problems I will not,

For I know eventually I can untie the knot.

"Mark time March!" as they command us,

Better follow to make not a fuss.

Chin up and stand also erect,

Follw and lead the path they direct.

We may be girls in green,

But we help each other boost our self-esteem.

New found buddies are what we met,

They make us jolly and not to fret.

Respect Mother Nature is what we ought to do,

Cheer her up and plant bamboos.

Don't belittle those animals you find,

Instead save them and use your mind.

Rules were made for us to follow and not break,

That's what a girl scout says and makes.

Live the laws and fulfill the promise,

Is what's in the mind of this little miss.

We are scouts tomorrow and today,

Need not to be sad but instead feel gay.

Put in actions the learnings you found,

Produce harmony and make a joyful sound.
